Ruinart – Maison Ruinart
The Ruinart chalk cathedrals are the only ones in Reims to be both listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a historic site since 1931.
In addition to discovering the work of the riddlers, distillers, dressers and oenologists who create Ruinart wines, guests will have the opportunity to visit the famous chalk pits that run under the capital of the Champagne region. At the end of the 18th century, the pioneering Ruinart family had the intuition that these pits could offer optimal conditions for the aging of its wines: the crayères are like underground cathedrals that were first exploited during the Gallo-Roman period. Their luminous white tunnels crisscross over a length of more than eight kilometers, offering a total absence of vibrations and a constant temperature and hygrometry.
